gather community guidelines

effective date: January 20, 2026

Gather exists to make real-life social experiences feel welcoming, respectful, and safe. These Community Guidelines explain what we expect from everyone who uses Gather—whether you’re hosting, attending, or just exploring.

These Guidelines apply to all activity on Gather, including profiles, messages, gatherings, and in-person interactions connected to the Platform. They supplement our Terms of Service and Privacy Policy.

Our Community Principles

Gather is built on a few simple ideas:

  • Be respectful

  • Be honest

  • Be inclusive

  • Be responsible for your behavior, online and offline

We expect users to engage in good faith and treat others as real people—not profiles.

1. Respectful Behavior

You must treat other users with respect at all times.

This means you may not:

  • Harass, threaten, intimidate, or stalk others

  • Use hate speech or slurs, or target someone based on race, ethnicity, nationality, religion, gender, sexual orientation, disability, or other protected characteristics

  • Engage in unwanted sexual attention, sexual advances, or sexually explicit behavior

  • Bully, shame, or demean others

Disrespectful behavior—whether on the app or at a gathering—may result in removal from the Platform.

2. Safety at Gatherings

Gatherings involve meeting people in real life, sometimes in private homes. Safety is a shared responsibility.

As a host

You are expected to:

  • Provide accurate information about the gathering

  • Follow applicable laws and building rules

  • Set clear expectations (e.g., start/end times, house rules)

  • Maintain a safe environment for attendees

As an attendee

You are expected to:

  • Respect the host, their space, and their rules

  • Leave if asked to do so

  • Look out for your own safety and comfort

You may not:

  • Bring uninvited guests

  • Damage property

  • Bring weapons or illegal substances

  • Engage in violence, threats, or dangerous behavior

If a situation feels unsafe, prioritize your safety and leave if necessary.

3. Honesty and Authenticity

Gather works best when people show up honestly.

You may not:

  • Impersonate someone else

  • Provide false or misleading information about yourself

  • Misrepresent the nature of a gathering

  • Create multiple accounts to bypass rules or enforcement

Profiles, messages, and gatherings should reflect who you actually are and what you’re actually offering.

4. Hosting Expectations

If you host on Gather, you take on additional responsibility.

Hosts must:

  • Use Gather only for lawful gatherings

  • Clearly describe what the gathering is (and is not)

  • Use payments or tokens only as described

  • Respect attendees’ privacy

Hosts may not:

  • Misuse payments or tokens

  • Pressure attendees to spend additional money

  • Use gatherings primarily for solicitation, recruiting, or selling products or services unless clearly disclosed and permitted

Gather is about social connection—not hidden agendas.

5. Payments and Tokens

If a gathering requires tokens or payment:

  • Costs must be clearly disclosed in advance

  • Payments should align with the stated purpose (e.g., food, drinks, supplies)

Disputes about value or expectations should be handled respectfully. Gather may intervene if there is evidence of abuse or misrepresentation.

6. Prohibited Content and Conduct

You may not use Gather to:

  • Promote illegal activity

  • Share explicit sexual content

  • Share graphic violence or threats

  • Exploit or endanger others

  • Collect or misuse personal information about others

  • Spam, scam, or defraud users

Any attempt to manipulate, deceive, or exploit other users may result in immediate removal.

7. Privacy and Personal Information

Respect privacy—yours and others’.

You may not:

  • Share someone else’s private information without permission

  • Record or photograph others in private spaces without consent

  • Use information obtained through Gather for harassment, stalking, or unwanted contact

Hosts’ addresses are shared only with approved attendees and must not be shared further.

8. Reporting and Enforcement

If you experience or witness behavior that violates these Guidelines:

We take reports seriously and may review messages, profiles, and gathering activity to enforce our rules.

Possible actions include:

  • Content removal

  • Warnings

  • Temporary suspension

  • Permanent account removal

Enforcement decisions are made at Gather’s discretion to protect the community.

9. A Final Note

Gather is not about perfection—it’s about showing up thoughtfully.

We expect users to:

  • Communicate openly

  • Take responsibility for their actions

  • Help make gatherings welcoming and enjoyable

By using Gather, you agree to follow these Community Guidelines and help create the kind of community you’d want to join yourself.
